The practitioner
Loukas Panether
Hierophant, practising shaman, holistic trainer and mentor. Twenty years in transformation and rehabilitation, seven of them training in the Amazon.
March 2006
The awakening
He describes a presence entering his body like a mist of air, and recognising it as the spirit of his own mother. What followed was not imagination. It was initiation, and it was not gentle.
His awareness sharpened quickly. Intuition he had no framework for. Encounters with ancestral and archetypal forces that reorganised what he understood about life, death and consciousness.
Then came what the traditions call a shamanic death: the dissolution of an identity, accompanied in his case by physical paralysis and a long interior transformation. People who go through it either come out the other side changed or they do not come out at all.
What began as a personal event became the whole shape of his life. He has spent the two decades since turning it into something usable for other people.
Shamanic healing is not about fixing what is broken. It is about remembering who you are beneath the noise.
Seven years of initiation
Trained in the Amazon
For seven years Loukas has trained in sacred Amazonian traditions, working with Mapacho, the sacred tobacco, as a practising shaman under the guidance of guardian spirits and plant teachers.
Through that initiation he received the Icaros: healing songs that carry the work, and that cannot be learned from a book or bought. They are given, and only to people who have done what is required to receive them.
Shamanism itself is old, on the order of a hundred thousand years. It is the relationship between the land, the people and the spirits, held by men and women able to travel into the non-ordinary realms and bring something back for the community. Loukas learned it where it is still practised, from people who still practise it.
How he works
Two disciplines, one session
While training in the jungle he kept studying Western modalities of mind and body integration. That was deliberate, and it is what makes his sessions unusual.
He works spiritually and psychologically at once, which means emotional, energetic and behavioural patterns can be addressed at the root rather than one layer at a time. He calls the result mental and emotional recalibration.
It also means he can tell the difference between something that needs clearing and something that needs a doctor. He will say so.
